Underwater Journeys

The Yukon is a Canadian Destroyer, sunk in July of 2000 to form an artificial reef for divers. The first time I dived the Yukon, in October of 2002, the ship did not have a lot of marine life on it; it looked like metal covered in scum. Now, seven years after its sinking, the Yukon is starting to accumulate life: lots of corynactis and metridiums, and even strands of kelp in some areas. These are photos from a visit to the gun turret.
